Telekom Srbija is preparing the sale of a majority of the most important telecommunications antenna poles and accompanying equipment. Birn announced that this pertains to a total of 1,827 poles, 995 of which are located in Serbia, 725 of which are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 107 of which are in Montenegro.

The CEO of Telekom Srbija, Vladimir Lucic, said on RTS that the sale of poles was a world trend and that only the poles were being sold, without the TC infrastructure.

– The trend started in Europe, because Telekom’s operators get more benefits – considerable funds for a further transformation of the company and a better partner for a further construction. Construction is not a core business for us. The poles we have now were built by other companies for us, and external companies maintain them – Lucic points out.

According to him, people will be surprised with the price of the poles, which is up there with transactions on a global scale.

– The transaction has not been completed. What’s very important for Serbia has been done. At an international tender, in which 50 of the strongest players took part, the EBRD and the World Bank won, a combination of banks which guarantees that the tender was transparent – Lucic says.

When asked whether the sale pays off, because they will have to rent poles, Lucic confirms that it does and says that, if it weren’t so, all other telecom companies in Europe would not have done the same.

– The company has taken on the job of building 400 new poles in Serbia, which will enable a quick development of the 5G network. Of course that wasn’t a public job. When you’re working with the World Bank and the EBRD, there’s a procedure. They announced it on their websites – Lucic points out.

He points out that they didn’t hide that they wanted to transform the company, which means that they have to be closer to the customers and build more infrastructure – the optical infrastructure and the base stations.

– We have acquired some companies in that process, but also left some arrangements. The main development project, where we will invest funds, is to expand in the region and in America, in order to gain an income – notes Lucic.
