Serbia Gets 43% More Permits for Cargo Transport Through Spain

After a six-year break, a session of the Mixed Work Group for Road Transport of Serbia and Spain was held, where Serbia got 43% more permits for cargo transport, stated the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

– Until this year, our two countries exchanged 2,400 bilateral and 150 transition permits a year. With the agreement of the Serbian and Spanish ministries, the contingent of permits is increasing this year for both this and next year to 3,200 bilateral and 450 transit permits, which matches the needs of our transporters – said minister Vesic.

He added that Serbia wanted to agree with all states, primarily EU states, as liberal a regime of road cargo transport as possible, thereby removing as many administrative barriers which burden the transport economy as possible.

– The significance of this Mixed Commission also lies in the fact that bilateral goods exchange between Serbia and Spain grew 50% in 2022 compared to 2021, whereas around 60% of this trade is done by road transport – Vesic said.

Vesic said that the Mixed Commission had not had the mandate to consider his request to Spain to have the permit regime removed.

– That’s a decision that will be made at a political level and will be one of the topics in the future talks between the two governments – said Vesic and announced a meeting of the Mixed Commission with Italy, Hungary and North Macedonia.
