The Ministry of Mining and Energy has opened the public procurement procedure for the service of the project supervision of the construction of the Belgrade-Bulgaria gas interconnection.

The specification of the tender reminds that, with the construction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad main gas pipeline (Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection), the interconnection of the gas pipeline transport systems of Serbia and Bulgaria will be realized.

The planning designs envisage the construction of the main gas pipeline through the territories of the cities of Nis and Pirot and the municipalities of Bela Palanka and Dimitrovgrad.

The tender is open until April 19.

The gas interconnector which links the two countries, which Serbia will also connect to, which is building its section from Nis to Dimitrovgrad and further to Sofia, was put into operation in October last year.

The Bulgarians started the works on the construction of the gas interconnector in their territory in February.

The Gas Interconnection Bulgaria-Serbia (IBS) will be 109 kilometers long in Serbia, and the total length of the two-way gas pipeline through both states is 170 kilometers, from Novi Iskar near Sofia to Nis. The gas pipeline has a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas a year and is a project of mutual interest for the EU.

The total value of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad-Bulgaria gas interconnector, according to the estimate of the European Investment Bank, is EUR 85.5 million, of which the EIB is to provide EUR 25 million as a loan, EUR 49.6 million is a co-financing grant by the EU from the IPA funds, whereas the remaining costs will be covered from the budget of Serbia and own funds of the PE Srbijagas.

The main contractor is the company Glavbolgarstroy, and, in addition to the two-way main gas interconnector, the works in the territory of Serbia entail the construction of four measuring-regulation stations and side facilities.

The gas interconnection between the two countries is expected to be ready for operation in mid-2023.
