By the end of 2025, the whole Serbia will be covered by broadband internet, which all citizens will be able to access, the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, announced today.

– In the 21st century, that is a basic human right, you can’t expect young people to stay in villages and rural areas, where they can do a job, open their own business, and they don’t have internet – Brnabic said at the National Academy for Public Administration in Belgrade.

According to her, Serbia has chosen to develop electronic government and it therefore can’t leave its citizens without access to it.

The prime minister added that it was an investment of EUR 500 million and explained that it was a public-private partnership, where half the funds would be provided by the state, and another half by the private sector.

Brnabic also said that, from the beginning of 2023, the state would work on raising the digital literacy of the elderly and that the project, for a start, encompassed 20 elderly care homes throughout Serbia.

– When we entered these elderly care homes, they truly welcomed it with enthusiasm and said they wanted to learn such things – the prime minister said.
