The National Assembly of Serbia adopted the Law on Special Terms for Realization of Project of Construction of Apartments for Members of Security Forces on Friday, May 25, 2018, which envisages for the price of these apartments not to exceed EUR 500 per square meter.

In the first phase of the realization of the project, which should last until 2020 and whose value has been estimated at EUR 64.35 million, as announced, a total of 1,578 apartments will be built, specifically, 190 apartments in Vranje, 188 in Nis, 200 each in Kraljevo and Kragujevac and 400 each in Belgrade and Novi Sad.

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic announced earlier that the construction of apartments for members of security forces might begin as soon as early August in three cities – Kraljevo, Vranje and Nis.

Presenting the law, she said at the time that around 30,000 people working in the security forces did not have the housing issue settled and that 18,905 of them said in a survey that they were interested in these apartments.

The maximum selling price per square meter will be EUR 500 plus VAT.

It was said that the construction of the apartments would influence the raising of the GDP in the construction sector and the engagement of the local construction industry.

The law also proscribes terms for future purchasers of the apartments, members of security services.
