Kitchen waste - future of eco jet fuel
As the American company announced, this plant should be put in operation in 2017, Belgian electronic media have reported.
This is first attempt at converting landfill waste into jet fuel.
The plant will be built in Thurrock, Essex. It will convert about 575,000 tons of waste into 120,000 tons of biofuel.
British Airways has already concluded an agreement to purchase 50,000 tons of green fuel.
- We are always striving to reduce our impact on climate change and this first-of-its-kind project marks a significant step for the aviation industry - said Willie Walsh, CEO of British Airways.
The British airline transported 37 million passengers in 2012. This company currently has a fleet of 270 aircraft.
