Iraqis want Croatian trains
A consortium from Croatia has been invited to bid for the delivery of 10 electric trains to the Iraqi railway company. In addition to the Croatian consortium comprising TZV Gredelj and Koncar Elektroindustrija, the French company Alstom, China's Datong Electric Locomotive and manufacturers from Iran and Turkey are also invited to participate in the tender.
The winner will have to deliver two trains until the year's end and the remaining eight during 2013.
Although people at Gredelj, the leading member of the consortium, do not want to comment on the value of the job before the bid submission process is over, it can already be assumed that it would be one of the most profitable export deals of the Croatian industry in 2012.
By the way, thanks to big investments in the railway infrastructure development, Iraq may soon become one of the quickest-growing rolling stock markets.
This is where Gredelj sees its chance, and the fact that the company is invited to bid for a contract with the Iraqi Railways is a proof they it enjoys a good reputation in the market of the Near East.
