Opportunity for Serbian Innovators in European Market – Founding of EIT Community RIS Hub Planned in Serbia

The minister without a portfolio in charge of innovations and technological development, Nenad Popovic, and the director of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), Martin Kern, today signed the Letter of Intent to found the EIT Community RIS Hub in Serbia. On that occasion, Popovic said that the signing of said document intensified the very successful cooperation of Serbia with the European Union in the field of innovations and high technologies.

He said that the Letter of Intent had been approved by the European Commission and the Government of Serbia, proving the readiness of both sides to include Serbia in the concept of the Regional Innovation Scheme of EIT.

The EIT Community RIS Hub will be an umbrella institution for hiring a large number of Serbian participants for the activities of the EIT Community in Europe, the minister explained.

Kern expressed his satisfaction over the strengthening of the cooperation with Serbia in supporting startups, entrepreneurs and students to implement their innovations faster.

According to him, the EIT Community is already present in the Serbian innovation ecosystem and, by the end of 2020, it had directed over EUR 1.2 million of support to local businesses and innovation projects in the preceding years, resulting in over EUR 9 million in investment returns.

– We are looking forward to founding the new EIT Community RIS Hub through which this support will increase and provide Serbian innovators with better access to European funds and possibilities for cooperation – he said.

This organization will promote the activities of the European Union and the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of innovations, entrepreneurship and technologies and provide the members of the innovation ecosystem of Serbia with access to the wide EIT Community, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.
