The construction of the subway system in Belgrade, which officially begins on November 1, with the construction of the depot, will start with the removal of the upper earth layer, followed by the application of a rough rock layer. The application of a sand layer up to the cote 74, two meters, is to follow, says the director of the PUE Beogradski voz i metro, Stanko Kantar.

According to him, around 1.5 million cubic meters of the material will be spent, of which 1.2 million cubic meters of sand. This is followed by the successive construction of the depot facilities. Kantar reminds that, on an area of 72 hectares, the management building, the inspection hall for the examination of trains, the halls for the washing of trains and the interventions on wheels, the halls for maintenance and storage of trains, the halls for construction machines and maintenance, the tracks and the new traffic routes are all to be built.

The agreement on the designing for the second phase of the first line has been signed as well, and, as Kantar says, when the preliminary project for the first line is finished in April 2022, negotiations about its construction will start.

– The construction begins with the construction of the stations and several of them should be built so that the TBM machine could pass through. The station at the Republic Square is deeper and takes more time to build, and the machine will quickly travel the distance from there to the Bajloni Market. The construction of the stations will take up to two and a half years overall. For us, it is important for the construction part for the TBM machine to be finished, but it’s inevitable that several stations will be built simultaneously. It is a well-defined plan dynamic. One machine will set off from Makis, the other from Karaburma, and the excavations are to be done at the Mostar station – Kantar told Novosti.

He adds that the stations are to be built in two ways.

– On the Republic Square, the station will be located at the park near Staklenac. We will fence off the space, move the traffic if necessary and we are beginning the excavations. That is the “bottom-up” model. A hole is dug, which remains open throughout, in its full capacity, and the elements are then assembled together. In Pozeska Street, we will most likely implement the “top-down” model. A hole is opened, an upper plate is made, and the construction continues down to the ground through the openings. That is more expensive and takes more time, but takes up less space on the surface – he says.
