2020 RETROSPECTIVE: Investments in INDUSTRY Most Interesting to eKapija Users
We present the projects in the field of industry that marked 2020 and drew the most attention from the public and also among our readers:
The first spot on our TOP 10 list belongs to the big investment of the Japanese giant Toyo Tires in the construction of a tire factory in Indjija.
The beginning of the realization of the investment of EUR 364 million was initially announced for August 2020, but, due to coronavirus, the foundation stone for the factory was laid down in mid-December.
In the second place is our exclusive report from MIND Park near Kragujevac, an industrial-technological complex in the Industrial Zone Sobovica near Kragujevac, which opened in 2018 and which was pronounced a project of national importance by the Government of Serbia.
This “small” industrial miracle in the heart of Sumadija, in the midst of fertile farming land, devised after the sale of the Milanovic Inzenjering company to Siemens, is growing into a pioneering endeavor in this part of the world in the field of high-tech and rail industry. Siemens Mobility, which produces trams (more about this in spot 9), has built a hall within it, and, in the future, as they said for eKapija, MIND Park will also focus on the aviation industry, which has about 80% processes and procedures similar to those in the rail industry.
The third spot on our list belongs to the Jadar project. The information about the jadarite site near Loznica, pertaining to a mineral that is unique in the world and that was discovered in Serbia in 2007 by researchers of the Rio Tinto company, has remained intriguing to the Serbian public, but also the global public.
In early 2020, the tender for exploratory boring and hydrogeological research at the Jadar site opened, and, at the International Conference on Mineral Resources in Serbia, it was announced that the mine, whose construction should start next year, would be equipped with the most sophisticated technology – electric vehicles, a modern operating center and 3D technology.
The fourth place features another Japanese investment, the announced investment of Nidec Corporation in Novi Sad. The company, which is one of the most important world producers of small electric motors for hard drives, electric devices and cars, plans to build a factory in the industrial zone in Novi Sad and employ several hundred workers, and the investment will be worth USD 1.9 billion.
The news that the British company Mineco is to open a lead and zinc mine in the Raska District, placed fifth on our list. It will be the company’s fourth mine in Serbia, and the first steps toward the realization of this project were made with the acquisition of the Serbian mining company Vavrina Resources d.o.o.
The sixth spot belongs to the information about the construction of a new business-service center of Milsped AML in Stara Pazova, worth around EUR 3.5 million.
In the seventh place is the news that the construction of a factory of the German company Brose, which produces electric engines for the automotive industry, began in March in Pancevo.
The eighth place features the information from October 2020 that Fluid Technology Systems d.o.o. is completing the works on the new factory of automotive parts in Priboj, which will employ around 400 workers.
In the ninth spot is the news from December that Siemens Mobility is delivering its first Avenio tram fully produced at the company’s factory in Cerovac near Kragujevac.
As Siemens announced, it is one of the 47 trams that are being built in Serbia for the client Bremen Strassenbahn AG (BSAG).
The tenth spot belongs to the news from June 2020 that the Government of Serbia is preparing the construction of the Chemical Park Prahovo. It was announced at the time that, considering that this part of Europe does not have any chemical parks, a great interest from investors from the EU, as well as China and India, was expected – the first phase of the construction on 115 ha might attract up to 30 foreign investors.
