After Kopaonik, Stara Planina and Fruska Gora, the company Lidl Srbija and its partners, the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia and Ekostar Pak, have also cleaned the Zlatibor mountain and thereby completed the campaign of removing waste from the mountains of Serbia. During these four big cleaning campaigns, a total of 150 bags of waste, both the utility waste and the recycling waste, were collected and further processed by the partner which specializes in waste treatment – Ekostar Pak.

The initiative aims to preserve the environment and the nature, which are polluted to a large extent. In addition to cleaning the waste that endangers the natural environment, there are also efforts to educate the citizens and raise environmental awareness of how to reduce the waste that's being produced, how to dispose of it properly and how to recycle it properly after it is removed from the nature.

– To establish a waste management system, it is very important for all of us to realize that we are equally responsible for its treatment – from households and business entities that produce it, public utility enterprises and authorized collectors, to recycling companies which turn the waste into new raw materials or products – emphasized Bojana Peric, the director of Ekostar Pak, a packaging waste management system operator.

In line with the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” principle, it is crucial for the waste to be disposed of properly, so that it could be used as a raw material for new products. “Many plastic materials can be reused, if they are properly sorted in recycling containers. There's still a lot of room here to improve the system. But, with a little effort and through the support of companies such as Lidl Srbija, which carried out these campaigns, awareness of the problem can be improved and the finding of a solution can be stimulated – Bojana Peric added.

Last weekend, on Zlatibor, where Lidl Srbija's mountain cleaning campaign was finished, more than 20 volunteers gathered to clean a stretch of 1.5 kilometers leading to the well known Spomenik vacation site. Thirty bags of waste were collected during this day-long activity.

This campaign is another one in the range of socially responsible initiatives of the company for the implementation of the “REset Plastic” strategy, an important component of which, among other things, is the removal of plastic waste. The environmental strategy “REset Plastic” is oriented at five fields of activity: from reducing the use of plastic, improving the packaging design to reduce the share of plastic used, to increased use of recycled plastic and removal of waste from the nature, to inciting ecological innovations and education in this field. This reduces the use of plastic and completes the cycle. Learn more at www.reset-plastic.com.
