The chambers of commerce of Serbia and the territory controlled by the authorities in Pristina are planning to support, through joint actions, the projects of construction of lithium battery storage power stations, as reported by Senerges.rs.

The two chambers are planning to establish a joint energy sector group, which would provide support to the construction of battery storage power stations and be a part of a joint team, which would facilitate investment projects in line with the agreement on the normalization of economic relations with the mediation of the USA.

The group will also support lithium research projects, following the achievements of the mining company Rio Tinto, which discovered a lithium borate site in the Jadar river valley in Serbia fifteen years ago, which is estimated to contain 10% of the global reserves of this metal.

In the sector of power distribution, the systems of power storage for later use contribute to long-term reliability and elasticity. The key technologies of the power storage systems are pump hydro power plants, compressed air energy accumulators, flywheels, batteries and condensers.

Since recently, lithium-ion batteries have taken advantage as the leading battery technology thanks to their greater efficiency. The key instigator of growth in the construction of energy storage systems is the collocation of power plants for the production of renewable energy with power plants for the storage of energy. That this is a very current trend is shown by the fact that, in Maribor, Slovenia, the construction of one such power plant, of 25 MWh, which will provide 5 MW to the system in 5 hours, has just started.
