The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia has opened the public procurement procedure for the preparation of technical documentation for the expansion of the capacities of the Port of Prahovo, as well as the construction of a so-called green terminal, the first such terminal in Serbia. The additional capacities of the Port of Prahovo should enable the reloading and storage of at least 2,000,000 tons of various kinds of bulk and general cargo, whereby the port will meet the requirements for getting included in the TENT-T Core Network of river ports.

– The Port of Prahovo is especially important for efficient operations of RTB Bor and IHP Prahovo and consequently for a large number of residents of eastern Serbia, whereby the planned expansion of the port's capacities will make it much more competitive compared to the ports of Turnu Severin, Vidin and Calafat – the documentation reads.

The expansion of the capacities of the Port of Prahovo, through the construction of storage areas for bulk and general cargo, as well as the ancillary access and port infrastructure, should enable the valorization of the favorable geographic position of the port, primarily through its specializing in reloading and storing bulk and general cargo, predominantly, but not exclusively, related to the chemical industry.

Also, as said, considering that there are no port terminals in Serbia for ship waste, which has a very negative impact on the Danube, the construction of the first green terminal, that is, a terminal for the reception, treatment and disposal of ship oil and waste matters, as well as the handling, treatment and evacuation of waste waters, will substantially upgrade the level of environmental protection and reduce the Danube pollution.

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has been authorized to take upon itself all the obligations arising from the contracts for the preparation of the technical documentation for the expansion of the capacities of the Port of Prahovo, for which purpose RSD 24,000,000 was set aside for 2020 and RSD 6,000,000 for 2021.

The deadline for the submission of bids for the preparation of the technical documentation is March 27, 2020.

Let us remind that the ministry has also opened a tender for the preparation of technical documentation for the expansion of the capacities of the Port of Bogojevo. More about this can be found in a separate article.
