The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is asking for Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) to do a calculation of new electricity tariffs, which would include increased expenditures for renewable energy sources, by the end of June 2020, but also to increase the price of electricity by that time, Blic writes in the Saturday issue.

According to the daily, the IMF said in a report sent to the Serbian authorities that, without those measures, it was not realistic to expect a successful financial consolidation of EPS.

– The IMF is asking for a new electricity price increase, as it believes that the recent increase in the price of a kilowatt is not sufficient to cover the costs of the production of electrical energy. What's important is that they insist on having a formula adopted by which electricity price increases would be tied to the inflation, but also to have the exact date set when the new price list comes into effect – Blic reports.

The daily adds that the end of 2020 is cited in the IMF report as the deadline by which all the activities related to the transformation of EPS from a public enterprise into a joint-stock company should be completed.
