Dried porcino mushrooms from Arilje in demand from America to Australia – BMD products soon to be available in DM stores
BMD, a small family business which buys out, processes, packs and exports forest mushrooms and forest and cultivated fruit has recognized the qualities of this area and decided to share its love of nature with others.
So far, the company has been producing and packing delicacies per order, but their products will soon become available in DM stores, the director of BMD, Dragana Maslar, reveals for our portal.
– We primarily produce finished small packages, which are sent directly to supermarkets in Germany and Australia. Our main exporting markets are the EU and Australia. We are now in the DM Incubator program, where we are working on the technology of new products, a new design, and where we are forming our brand for the first time. But, more about that later, once the products become available in DM stores – Maslar says.
In addition to dried mushrooms, the company also offers risottos with various mushrooms, and all their forest products are certified as organic.
– Our main product is the dried mushrooms, so we offer it in 6 classes in all sorts of packages. Another very important product is the dried golden chanterelle mushroom, which we offer in 3 classes in all types of packaging. The forest strawberry is one of the main frozen products we offer, and we are very proud of our latest products – risottos, prepared meals that are both fast and healthy – Maslar points out.
– We also offer shiitake mushrooms and tree oyster mushrooms in smaller amounts. As for frozen fruit, there’s the forest strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, cultivated raspberry, Stanley plum, and we also offer spreads made of forest fruit and cultivated fruit.
Three decades of tradition
It all began in 1989 as a mushroom buyout business founded by Vaso and Bosa Kaljevic.
– The business only dealt with fresh mushrooms at the time, which were available from May to October, and the store then closed until the next season. In 1996, the business became an LLC and started expanding to include dried products, which in time grew so much as to push out the fresh products – Maslar says for our portal.
The facility for the processing of dried mushrooms and a cooling capacity of 200 tons was built in 2003, when the company started including frozen fruit in its range of products.
– Thanks to the good working conditions, an opportunity presented itself for producing small packages of mushrooms and we entered the supermarket systems, first in Germany, and then in the USA and Australia as well. The range of products has expanded – Maslar says.
