American companies have invested USD 4 billion in Serbia, as the country has become a desirable and stable investment destination, and the Free Trade Agreement provides Serbia with an access to markets of over a billion people, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), Marko Cadez, pointed out today.

He said at the Trade Winds conference at the CCIS, at the meeting with the business-political delegation of the US State of Maryland, that environmental protection, along with IT, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, was the new field of potential cooperation and the area in which a new wave of American investments within Serbia was expected.

– There have been increasingly more American investors in Serbia year after year and their contribution through production, export and employment is increasingly larger. According to American sources, total investments of American companies in Serbia amount to nearly USD 4 billion – Cadez emphasized while addressing businessmen from the USA and Serbia.

The gathering at the CCIS was attended by representatives of 20 Serbian companies from the agricultural and food sector, the mechanical industry and the medical sector, as well as representatives of commercial chains and distribution companies.

US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott emphasized that the USA would continue to build, as he said, good relations with Serbia, not just in investments, but in the field of bilateral relations as well, and in the growing service sector.

– This is something we will be building our partnership on – Scott emphasized and clarified that the USA wanted to be among Serbia's 10 most important partners.

Scott also reminded that, in 2016 alone, the trade between the two countries amounted to USD 500 million.

At the gathering, he presented several international companies headquartered in America, with representatives in Serbia. They will have meetings with Serbian businessmen in the upcoming days.

Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan emphasized at the event that investments in the said sector in Serbia were very significant and that the expected and necessary investments amounted to around USD 14 billion.

He explained that the process of investing in environmental protection in Serbia would continue at the same pace in the next period as well, primarily in the sectors of waste management and energy efficiency.

Trade Winds is the biggest annual trade mission of the US government, which aims to introduce American companies with potential partners in other markets.
