Leoni starts building facility in Nis – Company announces EUR 22 million of investments and jobs for 2,200 workers
It is expected that the production in the Nis factory would begin in August.
The laying down of the foundation stone of Leoni’s third factory in Serbia was attended by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vuci, Leoni Serbia Director Clemens Sachs, Leoni Executive Vice President Ralf Maus, Ambassador of Germany to Serbia Axel Dittmann and Mayor of Nis Darko Bulatovic.
Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that he expected that Leoni would employ 3,000 people in Nis and open the fourth factory in Serbia, in the Nisava District, for which the company would be provided with incentives 5% larger than those received until then. Vucic said that, with its 7,500 employees, Leoni was becoming the biggest employer in the production sector in Serbia and especially pointed out how glad he was that Nis had become a part of it and that the promise made long before, that the government would take care of Nis and the area, was being fulfilled.
– I expect that this part of Europe will be the driving engine of the economic growth of the entire Europe, and we can’t do it without the Germans – Vucic emphasized.
The contract on the construction of the car cable factory in Nis was signed by Sachs and Minister of Economy Goran Knezevic in October 2016.
Leoni is one of the companies to receive state subsidies for employment. The Government of Serbia has provided EUR 31 million for the company in various subsidies. Leoni has been operating in Serbia since 2009 and has facilities in Prokuplje and Doljevac. Leoni has invested EUR 70 million in Serbia.
